Racing Triathlons for Autism in Singapore

We produce a lot of cycling and triathlon kit for charity events and for individuals who want triathlon or cycling clothing for a race they are doing for charity. Our first client from Singapore, Gil Perez, has started racing triathlons to raise awareness about autism as he has an autistic son.

Gil made his tri suits using our online semi-custom triathlon design program, which costs just 90 euros to set up a design.

Race Around Ireland trip

We had a great weekend in Trim, Ireland for the start of the Race Around Ireland, which Carvalho Custom has been very proud to sponsor. Picture below are the 13 solo racers in their Carvalho Custom jerseys, most of them looking pretty grim-faced (they are about to ride 2200kms non-stop, so who can blame them).

The first day of racing, it was wet. Very wet:

Nicole managed to shelter from the worst of the weather and keep smiling.

We will be at the Race Around Ireland in Trim

De Race Around Ireland is werkelijk een fantastisch evenement waarbij er 2.200 km lang aan een stuk door wordt gereden. Hierdoor is dit het moeilijkste wielerevenement van Europa en het is geweldig om er naar te kijken (en waarschijnlijk best pijnlijk om aan mee te doen denk ik). Het is dus zeker de moeite waard om hun website te bezoeken en te zien wat er allemaal gebeurt. Wie weet kunt u de deelnemers zelfs aanmoedigen langs de route!

Trois Etapes film

The Trois Etapes was the first pro-am cycling event, raising over £1 million for charity, with pro riders such as Carlos Sastre leading teams of 6 riders in a team time-trial race in the Alps. Carvalho Custom was the kit supplier for the team jerseys, shorts, rain jackets and winners’ jerseys.

As a company Carvalho Custom is very proud to supply custom cycling kit to prestigious events such as this one, the Race Around Ireland, the Dutch Winter Triathlon Series and so on, but we also sponsor a host of smaller events, typically organised by clubs who are already clients of ours. Trois Etapes race on Eurosport

The Trois Etapes race was run at the beginning of August – 3 mountain stages in the French Alpes to raise a million pounds for charity, with 60 riders taking part. We were chosen as the kit supplier, supplying shorts, cycling jerseys and jackets for the 3 days of riding and winners’ jerseys. Nicole and Charlie from Carvalho Custom went out to see the event and it was fantastic fun and unbelievably well organised.

The event is organised by Cosaveli and they have already made a commitment to run it again in 2013. The race was run in teams of 6 headed by a pro or ex-pro rider (one of which was Carlos Sastre) and the race director was Scott Sunderland, so it was a pretty impressive set up. You can watch the race on Eurosport this Sunday (18th of August) at 16.45 on Eurosport at the end of the coverage of the Vuelta.

Here is Nicole with the winners of the team race, the Right to Play team, who raised an incredible $400k for their charity through the Trois Etape race. Er deden 60 wielrenners mee aan deze etappekoers die werd gehouden om een miljoen Britse Pond bijeen te brengen voor liefdadigheid. Carvalho Custom werd gekozen als leverancier van de wielertenues en heeft de shorts, wielershirts en jassen geleverd voor de 3-dagen durende tocht evenals de shirts voor de koerswinnaars. Nicole en Charlie van Carvalho Custom hebben het evenement bijgewoond en hebben het erg naar hun zin gehad. Het was allemaal erg goed georganiseerd.

De tocht werd gehouden door Cosaveli, die het volgend jaar weer zullen organiseren. Elke wielerploeg bestond uit 6 man en werd geleid door een professioneel of voormalig professioneel coureur (waaronder Carlos Sastre). De racedirecteur was niemand minder dan Scott Sunderland, dus het was allemaal een vrij indrukwekkend gebeuren. U kunt de tocht aanstaande zondag (18 augustus) zien op Eurosport om 16:45u na het Vueltaverslag.

Hier staat Nicole samen met de heren van het team Right to Play dat de wedstrijd heeft gewonnen en het fantastische bedrag van $400.000 voor hun liefdadigheid bijeen hebben gereden in de Trois Etape race. We don’t deliver late – guaranteed

The number one complaint that is bandied about in the custom cycling and triathlon clothing business is that kit is delivered late by suppliers (there are many stories of many clubs receiving their order literally months late!). So 3 years ago, we took what seemed to many a brave decision – for every day we are late from the delivery date we agree with a client we will give a 2% discount. Carvalho Custom is the only supplier in the custom cycling and triathlon clothing sector that does this, because frankly a lot of other suppliers would be out of business in 6 months if they offered it!

Here it is time for a confession – sometimes the unexpected happens and a machine breaks, a load of seamstresses go off sick, a supplier lets us down or whatever and we really start to sweat. Our solution is that we do whatever is needed to get the stuff out on time though, which can mean some very late nights, because otherwise we would lose a whole lot of money (and we would gain a reputation for being as badly organised, unreliable and feckless as some of our competitors!). So guaranteeing delivery times keeps us on our toes and can keep things very interesting on the factory floor!

Race Around Ireland Custom Cycling Jerseys

This is our second year of sponsoring the Race Around Ireland – 2200kms of non-stop cycling racing and Europe’s answer to the Race Across America.

The race starts just north of Dublin in Navan, then heads up into Northern Ireland, across to the west coast, down to the bottom then back to Navan. Some of the competitors do this on their own, grabbing just a few hours sleep over 5 days (yes they ride 400+k a day for 5 days, which you probably shouldn’t try at home).

The race is organised by a truly inspirational man, Alan Heary, a sports psychologist who has worked with all sorts of top athletes from a variety of sports. It is no coincidence that he has chosen to run one of the world’s greatest endurance tests, because he specialises in understanding how you get sports people to dig deeper than they knew they could dig. You will see a lot of that in the Race Around Ireland….

The race starts 9th of September and you can follow it all online and Carvalho Custom will be there at the start, so please come along to see the race and meet us. We sponsor the RAI because we want to put something back into Irish cycling as we have really grown strongly in recent years in the Irish custom cycling and triathlon clothing markets and the RAI needs your support too.

Triathlon fashion designer wanted

Having recently started selling our blue and pink triathlon and cycling kit online, we have had a lot of requests to make some more designs available, particularly for female triathletes. The trouble with most triathlon kit available in the shops is that it is frankly a bit boring, mainly black with a few flashes of colour if you are lucky. Because our kit is fully printed, there are pretty much no design limitations, so we thought we would start selling a few more designs.

To get some really funky designs made we thought we would have a look for some contributions from outside of our company, so if you think you could design particularly female triathlon clothing, but also clothing for both sexes for cycling as well as triathlon, please get in touch (email Charlie via our contacts page).

If you would like to give it a go, there is really no point in coming up with conservative designs, because other people are doing that – we would like to come up with something really different. If you would like to have a go doing some sketches, there are some templates available on our cycling and triathlon design page. You do not need to have any experience in graphic design to get this work, you just need to be original….

Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership Tri Team custom tri suits

If you have ever worked with us here at Carvalho Custom, you will probably know that one of us is from New York (that will be Nicole) – the thing about New Yorkers is that they tell you exactly what they think, which always keeps things interesting in the office….

Anyway, we just did some custom tri kit for the Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership Tri Team, we were looking forward to their feedback, as we knew it was going to be frank. Luckily they liked the kit and this is what they wrote:

We send out an amazing number of samples to clubs who are interested in buying from us or need a sizing set (we don’t charge anything for this!) and typically we will have over 40 potential or actual clients who are holding on to our samples. We have found that a lot of them want to buy some of the kit off us, either to try it out properly or just because they like it, so we have started an online cycling and triathlon clothing store in which we sell the Carvalho Custom range in glorious pink and blue.

We are going to keep the prices for buying these items as the same as our wholesale prices (that is what you would pay when buying your own custom design in bulk), which means that you can buy individual items from us at the same price as we would sell them to shops for example, so you should be able to pick up some very attractive prices for pro quality kit.
